Dengue Fever Vaccine

Dengue is mainly spread by day-biting mosquitoes. The dengue vaccine can help protect suitable travellers visiting areas where dengue is common, but mosquito bite prevention remains essential. Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves where possible, and take extra care during the day, especially around dawn and dusk.

Side effects: The dengue fever vaccine may cause mild side effects such as pain, redness or swelling at the injection site, headache, tiredness, muscle aches, mild fever, or generally feeling unwell.

Additional precautions: Seek medical advice urgently if you develop a high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, rash, vomiting, bleeding gums, unusual bruising, severe stomach pain, or feel seriously unwell during travel or after returning home. The dengue vaccine may not be suitable for everyone and is usually considered for travellers who have had, or may have had, dengue before.
